Zines
YA Zines are often available in large public libraries and for free online. Because many are published by independent presses, some are only available through individual subscriptions. Listed below are some resources for finding YA Zines suitable for students.
Note that a single panel in a zine can turn a YA zine into an "Adult" zine, so being mindful of the restrictions of your school system will be important in providing zines to students or in suggesting titles to students.
- Hyacinth Girl Press"Hyacinth Girl Press is a micro-press that publishes up to 6 poetry chapbooks each year. We specialize in handmade books of smaller press runs. We consider ourselves a feminist press and are particularly interested in manuscripts dealing with topics such as radical spiritual experiences, creation/interpretation of myth through a feminist lens, and science. We think outerspace, in particular, is pretty darn cool. "
- School Lunch"A youth spotlight, School Lunch is a curated bi-weekly feature offering fiction, poetry, flash prose, personal essay, YA, and creative nonfiction, from writers ranging from ages 13-17. Enjoy these emerging writers and leaders of the future."
- Zines for TeensThis is a great starter list; you will need to Google specific titles, as the titles are not linked.
- Zines on EtsyAs part of the independent nature of Zine publishing, a number of Zines are posted in Etsy and can easily be browsed by title. Some are original issue and some are second-hand. The usual purchasing model for Etsy applies regarding access to these zines, but Etsy could be a source of titles to explore.
- Zine Wiki"ZineWiki is an open-source encyclopedia devoted to zines and independent media. It covers the history, production, distribution and culture of the small press."

Graphic Novels & Manga
The Carl B. has both Manga and Graphic Novels in our Curriculum Center collections; we also have histories and other academic treatment of these formats in the Main Collection.
To search for these in the Curriculum Center, search by author or enter "Manga" or "Graphic Novel" as search terms in the Curriculum search box. Also, come browse the collection, which is one of the best ways to find something new to you!
