Oxford Music Online is a great, convenient starting point for your research project. You will be able to find articles on the trumpet, composers, performers, and instrument makers. BUT, this online resource doesn't include many articles from the New Grove Dictionary of Musical Instruments, the definitive starting point for research on the history, construction, and use of music instruments. You will need to consult the PRINT edition:
