Introduction to eBooks

This guide includes links to the Carl B.'s eBook collections and answers to eBook frequently asked questions.

Accessibility

For low vision and blind readers, ProQuest Ebook Central books can be read aloud in Adobe Digital Editions.

Step 1: Download your selected title into ADE.

Step 2: Turn VoiceOver on by going in the menu bar to:  

Adobe Digital Editions > Services > Service Preferences > Universal Access > Turn VoiceOver on or off.

PC or Mac Full Book Download

  • Open your book in ProQuest Ebooks. Select Full Download
     

  • Follow prompts to install Adobe Digital Editions software.

    • Open Adobe Digital Editions, then Authorize Your Computer.

      • Optionally, create an Adobe ID and then authorize.

      • With an Adobe ID, you can access library ebooks from any computer.

  • Go back into ProQuest Ebooks to download your book.

    • Choose a loan period: 1, 7, 14, or 21 days

    • Download your book file. (file will have extension .acsm)

    • Locate the file in your Downloads. It should open using Adobe Digital Editions.

iOS or Android (Full Book Download)

  • Open your book in ProQuest Ebooks. Select Full Download
     

  • When prompted, install BlueFire Reader on your device.

    • Authorize BlueFire Reader using your Adobe ID.

    • If needed, create a free Adobe ID.

  • Go back into ProQuest Ebooks to download your book.
     

    • ​Choose a loan period: 1-21

    • Select EPUB (resizeable) or PDF (formatted like print)

    • Download and open your ebook file

      • From your computer: Save file and send to device
        • Open with BlueFire Reader
      • From your device: Open file with BlueFire Reader
